Spring Cleaning with Meaning: FSU Career Center Launches Clothing Drive for the ProfessioNole Clothing Closet

The ProfessioNole Clothing Closet, coordinated by the FSU Career Center, encourages the FSU and Tallahassee communities to scour their closets for the annual Spring Cleaning with Meaning clothing drive. The drive will run from Feb. 12 through March 15.
All students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to donate their gently worn business clothing items, such as suits, blouses, dress shirts or ties, to make a meaningful impact on FSU students.
Spring Cleaning with Meaning is the FSU Career Center’s way of giving back to students in need and spreading awareness of its ProfessioNole Clothing Closet, which saw over 1,000 students last semester. The closet is an essential way for many students to access to attire for their professional needs, both on and off campus.
“Seeing a student put on their first suit and the confidence just shine through them is so awesome,” said Heather Lazar, senior assistant director of employer relations at The Career Center. “The donations to the FSU (ProfessioNole Clothing) Closet do just that – they help build confidence in students as they face some of their first professional situations.”
This year’s drive is accepting all gently used or like-new professional attire items. Items of greatest need include:
- Men’s suits, blazers, dress pants and shirts (most significant need in smaller sizes)
- Women’s suits, blazers, dress pants and shirts (most significant need in smaller sizes)
- “Like new” dress shoes of any size (men’s and women’s)
- Accessories, including ties and belts (men’s and women’s)
Clothing should be considered in current fashion and “business professional” or “elevated business casual.” Donations should be clean with clearly labeled sizes and not damaged. Items deemed inappropriate for the ProfessioNole Clothing Closet will be donated to a local charity.
To donate, please contact Heather Lazar at heather.lazar@fsu.edu or 850-644-6493.
About the ProfessioNole Clothing Closet
Founded in 2016, The ProfessionNole Clothing Closet is a free, on-campus service provided to all current FSU students. By appointment, students may visit the closet and select up to four pieces of professional attire to keep for interviews, internships, career fairs, and other related events. It is entirely supported through monetary donations and clothing donations.
To make an appointment to visit the ProfessioNole Clothing Closet, students should reserve a time via NoleNetwork. For any questions about appointments, or more information about the closet, visit career.fsu.edu/ClothingCloset.
